These Specialized Participant Terms only apply if you are accepted to join our ‘Specialized Participant Group’ on Prolific. They govern your use of Prolific as a ‘Specialized Participant’ and apply to any Studies you access and take part in as part of the ‘Specialized Participant Group’ (see ‘Summary of what it means to be a Specialized Participant’ below). Before you register your interest in joining the Specialized Participant Group, please make sure you have read and understood these Specialized Participant Terms, which describe your (and our) legal rights and obligations in relation to your use of Prolific as a Specialized Participant.

As a Specialized Participant, you are still able to take part in any other Studies on Prolific (i.e. outside of the Specialized Participant Group).

• For any Studies which are not accessed through the Specialized Participant Group, the main Participant Terms you agreed to as part of onboarding on Prolific and which are available on our website, will continue to apply.
• For any Studies which you access through or take part in via the Specialized Participant Group (Specialized Participant Studies), these Specialized Participant Terms will apply.

<aside> 👥 Summary of what it means to be a Specialized Participant:

• The Specialized Participant Group is an exclusive group of highly-valued Participants who have certain skills and experience required by some of our specialist Researchers.
• As a Specialized Participant, you’ll need to agree to these Specialized Participant Terms with Prolific Research Technologies Ltd to have the opportunity to be considered for more in-depth Studies from these Researchers (‘Specialized Participant Studies’, which may be more like ‘tasks’ or ‘activities’), and you’ll still be able to take part in other Studies on Prolific outside of the Specialized Participant Group.
• Specialized Participant Studies might be slightly different from some of the other Studies you’re used to on Prolific: for example, they may be longer, take place over a prolonged period of time, and/or require more engagement, input or a certain skill set.
• As with other Studies on Prolific, you might have to take a pre-screening test or take part in a pilot study set by the Researcher to check whether or not you’re eligible for that particular Specialized Participant Study.
• Everything else about participating in a Specialized Participant Study is the same as when you take part in any other Study on Prolific. </aside>

Definitions and overview

To give some context for the rest of these Specialized Participant Terms:

• We are Prolific Research Technologies Ltd (PRT) (‘we’ or ‘us’), and your agreement under these Specialized Participant Terms is with PRT.

  (Note: we may also refer to other Prolific group companies such as Prolific Academic Ltd (PAL) and Prolific Research USA, Inc. (PRUSA) in these Specialized Participant Terms, for example, because our contract with certain Researchers is with that group company.)

• Prolific is the platform we provide for launching and recruiting for research studies (Studies), which we make available through our Website at www.prolific.com.

• Researchers are the academic institutions, organisations or individuals who use Prolific to launch specific studies, tasks and activities to Specialized Participants (Specialized Participant Studies).

• You are a Participant, and for the purposes of these Specialized Participant Terms, a Specialized Participant. Specialized Participants use Prolific to participate in Specialized Participant Studies, and their submissions in participating in Specialized Participant Studies are Submissions.

• The rewards offered by Researchers to Specialized Participants for their Submissions are Rewards.

There are a few legal relationships which arise through Prolific:

• When you register to use Prolific, you enter into an agreement with us (PRT) under which we agree to make Prolific available to you, and you agree to certain obligations in relation to your use of Prolific. That agreement comprises these Specialized Participant Terms.
