These terms and conditions ("Terms") govern your participation in the offer organized by Prolific Academic Ltd ("Prolific"). ******By referring a friend to become a Prolific researcher, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

Terms & Conditions

1. Eligibility

Who is eligible and not eligible for the ‘refer a friend’ offer?

  1. All researchers with a registered Prolific researcher account that is of “OK” status and not on hold or banned will be eligible to enter the competition.
  2. Any employees or contractors of Prolific Academic Ltd or family members of them or non-registered researchers on Prolific, will not be eligible to earn rewards on referring a researcher.
  3. The referrer must have spent more than $125USD or £100GBP on Prolific to be able to refer someone new.
    1. For a short period of time, a random selection of Prolific users will be allowed to refer someone new without having spent $125/£100.
  4. The referee must spend $125USD or £100GBP to receive the referral reward.
  5. Spends from credit or debit cards that have been used on another researcher account are not eligible for the referral bonus. The top up will be successful, but no bonus credit will be added to the account.
  6. Self-referrals (i.e. signing yourself up for multiple researcher accounts using different email addresses) will not be eligible to receive the bonuses. If we have reason to suspect that this is occurring we reserve the right to withhold any referral bonuses earned.
  7. Referrals made from a shared lab account to the personal account of an individual member of that lab will not be eligible to receive the bonus.
    1. Referrals made to a user who is joining the same workspace as the original user will not be eligible to receive the bonus.

2. Redeeming the ‘refer a friend’ offer

How do I earn the reward for referring a friend?

  1. Head to your referrals page using this link, or using the big pink button on the top right of your account page.
  2. Add your friend’s email addresses and send them invites, or you can share the link manually via WhatsApp or other social media - however you like!
  3. Once your referred user signs up, they must spend $125USD or £100GBP in order for both parties to receive the referral bonus.

3. What is the reward?

How much will I earn for referring a friend?

  1. If you currently top up in US Dollars, you will receive $30USD in Prolific credit for every friend who signs up using your link and spends $125USD. Your friend(s) will also receive $30 in Prolific credit.
  2. If you currently top up in Great British Pounds, you will receive £25GBP in Prolific credit for every friend who signs up using your link and spends £100GBP. Your friend(s) will also receive £25 in Prolific credit.

3. Timing

When is the refer a friend offer happening?

  1. The referral offer is ongoing but may be withdrawn without notice at Prolific’s discretion at some point in the future.

4. Restrictions

What can I do with the referral reward bonus?

  1. You can use this credit to pay any study fees, including participant payments, representative sample costs and bonus payments.
  2. The referral bonus can only be used on the researcher's account that it is originally credited to and cannot be transferred to another researcher's account.
  3. Prolific can change the referral bonus, for referrers and recipients, and eligibility period at any time, without notice.
  4. If a researcher requests a refund on an account with an unspent referral bonus, the bonus will not be included in the refund.
  5. Once a referred user signs up, they must spend $125USD or £100GBP within 30 days in order for both parties to receive the referral bonus.
